I Would Have Killed For Tappa-Tappa-Tappa

You know that thing that happens when your finger comes into contact with a surface properly sensitized to detect human appendages?

That, friends, is called a tap.

(Or a touch, or a press, or a push if you’re feeling so inclined.)

It is not, however, a click, and if you’re referring to it as such, then don’t.

Listen: find yourself the nearest glass surface. Try prodding it with your finger. What kind of sound does it make?

That’s right: a sort of “tap”-ish sound. Definitely not something that could be onomatopoeized as a “click”.

And if you prod most gadgets of the touch screen persuasion1, you’ll end up getting that same tap, and so you should generally be referring to it as such.

Cool? Cool.

  1. Unless that gadget is the BlackBerry Storm, in which case you have certain other problems that can’t be fixed with apropos admonishments from behatted bloggers.

Under the Fuzzy Green Hat is the curious web log of Lucas Wagner, a guy who probably has better things to do than post here all day.
