The editors of the BBC Africa Have Your Say programme thought long and hard about using this question […] We agree that it is a stark and challenging question, but think that it accurately focuses on and illustrates the real issue at stake.

BBC - The Editors: Controversial debate

Translation: “We wanted something that would automatically make people click the link and grab publicity.”

Or, in editorial terms, “resurrecting the lede and lighting it on fire.”

But honestly, how the hell could this be considered worthy of serious debate? I’d come up with my usual brand of long-winded vitriolic retort here, but this is too absurd to waste my time on — plus, I’m on vacation. Debate exists as a way to discuss the pros and cons of something at length, and last time I checked, there weren’t any cons of two consenting adults expressing their love for each other.

The BBC later apologized for the lede being “too stark”; I’m still waiting for them to apologize for raising this as a “debate” in the first place.

Under the Fuzzy Green Hat is the curious web log of Lucas Wagner, a guy who probably has better things to do than post here all day.
