Metraux

My final opus at the Gateway: the web edition of our annual spoof issue, which doubles as the final issue of the year. Created in five hours, using TextMate, the 960 Grid System, and gratuitous use of Photoshop.

Audio • Vidéo, Radio–Canada. How do it know?

frostalgia:

My desk and I made the news today. Only, it was in French… alors, mon bureau et moi ont fait les informations du soir. Aussi, un cameo par Luças Wagneur.

Also, there was a story or something involved. There’s no possible way I could remember what it was, though.

Fun story: I came into work half an hour late this morning, only to find my co-editors speaking in French to a camera crew in the middle of the office. I rarely have cause to freak out, but I was freaked out as all heck because I had no idea what was going on.

Come to think of it, I still don’t.

Also featured: my poor posture, my cluttered desk, and my blank Safari tab because I got nervous with reporters looking over my shoulder.

LAN Admin Jay shares his ideas for the Gateway’s centenary year

  • More funding for the Online Editor
  • Abolish the Sports section, replace it with pictures of scantily-clad attractive people
  • Set up an open blog system with rankings and publish the “best” blog entry each week as an Opinion piece
  • Get the SU in on a beard-growing contest
  • Have a voter apathy campaign around elections time, telling students why it’s just too much work to vote
  • One issue … on edible paper (“I know newsprint is edible, and God knows it’s full of fibre and nutrients. But I hear it can cause cancer and senility and that should be avoided.”)
  • Get the SU in on a beard-growing contest

“I will promote the highest standard of excellence and integrity. I will be a leader. I will make 2010/2011 the best year ever for the Gateway! YEAH! GO BEARS!”

Fuck Yeah, We’ll Do It Live

Against the full wishes of the various parts of me that hate doing work, I decided that it would be a fun idea to provide live audio of last night’s Students’ Council meeting. The Students’ Union’s president had just resigned, and the Council meeting was important because they’d be debating the next course of action for “presidential replenishment.”

So, for the benefit of other student journos out there, here’s what’s all involved in webcasting a meeting of your local student council.

Imagine Tupac

As part of tonight’s “Conal Pierse Should Be On Tumblr” set, here’s Exhibit B: YouTube user “icerobocop” turns a classic Lennon song into a tear-inducing tribute to dearly departed rapper Tupac.

This video was passed along to Nick and myself by Conal back in May. Truly inspirational.

Under the Fuzzy Green Hat is the curious web log of Lucas Wagner, a guy who probably has better things to do than post here all day.
